Wands at the ready!

Chestnut Hill’s massive (and massively popular!) Harry Potter Festival is set to return to the charming neighborhood in Northwest Philadelphia on Friday, October 20 and Saturday, October 21.

HARRY POTTER FESTIVAL FAST FACTS

  • The Harry Potter Festival returns to Chestnut Hill on October 20 and 21.
  • The festival will cover a whopping 12 blocks this year, making it the biggest Harry Potter Festival to date.
  • Admission to the festival is free.

New This Year

This year, the festival will fill 12 blocks of Germantown Avenue in Chestnut Hill (and some adjacent parking lots, too), making it the biggest Harry Potter Festival in Chestnut Hill to date. (Last year’s event ran for six blocks on Germantown Avenue.)

The festival kicks off with the new-this-year Wands and Wizards Night on the Avenue, an event running from 6 to 9 p.m. on Friday, October 20. Throughout the evening, guests can enjoy live performances throughout the festival grounds, extended hours at avenue shops and food and drink specials at participating bars. Guests of the Friday night festivities can also take part in a costume contest for the chance to win a cash prize.

Magical Make and Take Zones will also make their debut this year, offering children the chance to take part in interactive activities at 10 different areas. A magical wristband — which will cost $20 per person — will grant attendees full access to each zone. Wristbands will be available for purchase starting August 29.

Throughout the festival footprint, guests can also enjoy Harry Potter quizzo, a Deatheater’s dance party, potion making, wizarding demonstrations, a muggles read-a-thon, the popular straw maze at Woodmere Art Museum and so much more. Certain areas of Germantown Avenue will be home to photo opportunities of scenes inspired by the books and films.

Many of the activities along the avenue are completely free to enjoy, but note that a number of activities require a small fee.
